THE 60TH ANNUAL HORATIO ALGER AWARDS TO AIR IN TWENTY TV MARKETS ON THE COMCAST NETWORK ON MAY 27

Broadcast to Showcase Washington, D.C. Events Honoring High School Scholars and New Inductees Including Tom Brokaw, Jenny Craig, Roger Staubach & Howard Schultz

Washington, D.C. (May 14, 2007) – The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans is proud to announce that the 2007 Horatio Alger Award recipients and the high school seniors selected as 2007 Horatio Alger National Scholars will be featured in a special broadcast airing Sunday, May 27, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. on CN8, the Comcast Network.  "The 60th Annual Horatio Alger Awards” will feature coverage of the events held last month in Washington, D.C.

The broadcast will feature the events that honored the lives and success stories of those who have overcome adversity to achieve success, including 11 business executives and 105 teenage scholars seeking a brighter future. The celebrations transpired on April 12-14, 2007 in several historical Washington, D.C. venues as part of the Association’s 60th anniversary. Each honoree was formally inducted as a lifetime Member of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans at the DAR Constitution on April 13. Association Members Ed McMahon and Lou Dobbs served as emcees during the ceremony.

The Horatio Alger Awards are given to those who have overcome hardship to achieve great success through the American free enterprise system.  The 2007 Horatio Alger Award recipients include: Craig Barrett, chairman of the board, Intel Corporation; Tom Brokaw, former anchor and managing editor, NBC Nightly News; Jenny and Sid Craig, co-founders, Jenny Craig International; Craig Hall, chairman and founder, Hall Financial Group; Clarence Otis, Jr., chairman and CEO, Darden Restaurants; Richard Rosenberg, chairman and CEO (retired), Bank of America; David Rubenstein, co-founder and managing director, The Carlyle Group; Howard Schultz, chairman, Starbucks Coffee Company; Roger Staubach, chairman and CEO, The Staubach Company; and Chris Thomas Sullivan, founder and chairman, OSI Restaurant Partners, Inc.  Biographical information about the Horatio Alger Members is available at www.horatioalger.org.

The Horatio Alger Awards also present the compelling stories of 105 high school seniors who have overcome much misfortune in their lives while maintaining their grades in school and staying active in the community. Each student receives the Horatio Alger National Scholarship worth $20,000. The Association provides over $12.5 million in scholarships annually through programs.
