Louisiana Students to Receive Horatio Alger National Scholarship Worth $20,000
William J. Doré to Receive Highest Award from Horatio Alger Association

WASHINGTON, April 1, 2011 – The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc., will honor William J. Doré with its highest recognition and award scholarships to two Louisiana scholars this spring in Washington, D.C.

William J. Doré, of Doré Energy Corporation will receive the 2011 Horatio Alger Norman Vincent Peale Award on April 8, 2011 in Washington, D.C. because of his years of ongoing work with the association and his service as a role model. The Norman Vincent Peale Award is annually conferred on an association member who has made exceptional humanitarian contributions to society, who has been an active participant in the association, and who continues to exhibit courage, tenacity and integrity in the face of great challenges. The award is named in honor of Dr. Peale, who was an outstanding leader of the association for more than 40 years.  For more on Doré’s Horatio Alger story, visit http://www.horatioalger.org/member_info.cfm?memberid=dor00.

The Horatio Alger Association is also pleased to announce that it has awarded two students from Louisiana the Horatio Alger National Scholarship worth $20,000 to fund their college education. Karah Brandt of Slidell who attends Salmen High School and Ulysse Mouton of Lafayette who attends Northside High School will receive the esteemed scholarship for a four-year college or university of their choice, also during the Washington ceremonies.

Brandt and Mouton are two of 104 high school students selected for the Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program because, much like the adult new members, they have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives while demonstrating strength of character, a commitment to pursue a college education, and a desire to contribute to society. The Horatio Alger scholars are among the best and most determined youth in America.

“Louisiana is being represented this year not only by our Norman Vincent Peale Award recipient but also by two remarkable scholars,” said Tony Novelly, president and CEO, Horatio Alger Association. “We look forward to welcoming all of them during three days of learning, sharing, celebration and honoring the American Dream.”
During the three-day event in Washington, the 2011 Horatio Alger Members will meet and mingle with the 2011 National Scholars and share valuable life lessons and advice.
