Just Days Remain to Apply for More Than $125,000 in College Scholarships for Idaho High School Seniors
October 10, 2006/Washington, D.C. - The application deadline for more than $125,000 in college scholarship available from the Horatio Alger Association is October 30, 2006. The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans Inc. is the nation's leading provider of need-based college scholarships to high school seniors. The Horatio Alger Association will award fifty scholarships to high school seniors in Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Kootenai, Latah and Shoshone counties of two thousand five hundred dollars. All applications will be considered for the Horatio Alger National Scholarship of twenty thousand dollars scholarship and an all expense paid trip to Washington, DC in April 2007 to attend the Horatio Alger National Scholars Conference.
The Horatio Alger Association scholarships are need-based and target young people who are facing adversity or have overcome adversity in their lives and want to pursue a college education. Previous recipients of Horatio Alger Lola and Duane Hagadone Idaho scholarships have overcome a myriad of adversities including poverty, abandonment, physical & mental abuse, alcohol & drug abuse within the household, serious illness and the death of immediate family members.
Integrity, perseverance and initiative in overcoming adversity are foremost among the qualifications used to select the students who will receive Horatio Alger scholarships. Other criteria used to select recipients include critical financial need, community service, and academic achievement.
The on-line application process is free and straightforward; requiring completion of biographical information, academic and financial information, community service activities and an essay describing the adversities they are facing or have faced in their lives. No information from the application is ever shared with another entity and the application is completely private.
The Horatio Alger Lola and Duane Idaho Scholars Program is funded through the generosity of the Duane and Lola Hagadone. Mr. Hagadone is the founder, President and CEO of the Hagadone Corporation of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. In 2004 Duane Hagadone was inducted into the Horatio Alger Association, an organization comprised of Americans who have overcome adversity and humble beginnings to achieve success, and currently serves on the Association's Board of Directors.
