Students Receive Horatio Alger Scholarships Idaho Awards Made Possible by Hagadones

Fifteen area high school seniors have been awarded scholarships from the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans. A total of 40 scholarships were awarded throughout Idaho.
The scholarships were made possible by lifelong association member and Coeur d'Alene businessman Duane B. Hagadone and his wife, Lola.

Despite dealing with significant obstacles in her life, Arroyo Grande High School senior Ashley Johnson will receive her diploma this year and will continue her education. Ashley, who plans to attend California State University, Monterey Bay, in the fall, will graduate June 7 with her classmates.

Aimee Bidstrup, senior at Corinth High School Academic and Perorming Arts Center and recipient of a Horatio Alger Award is proof that extra effort and a positive outlook have real benefits. The 25 Horatio Alger Scholarships in Mississippi are given to students who have exhibited character and perseverance despite personal adversity and who aspire to attend a four-year college or university after graduating from high school.

Simonsen Awarded Scholarship

Autumn Simonsen, 18, daughter of David and Maggie Simonsen of Wayne, a senior at Wayne High School has been named a 2007 Horatio Alger Association Ak-Sar Ben Scholar. The award comes with a $2,500 cash award. She was one of only 100 students awarded in all of Nebraska and portions of Iowa.
