
The Association Announces the 2009 Dennis R. Washington Achievement Scholars |
The Horatio Alger Association is pleased to announce the following 2009 Dennis R. Washington Achievement Scholars:
Benny L. Cooper
Benny was awarded the National Scholarship in 2005 after graduating from J F Webb High School in Oxford, North Carolina. Benny has since received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Wake Forest University, and with the help of the 2009 Dennis R. Washington Achievement Scholarship, Benny will obtain his Ph.D in social and comparative analysis in education at the University of Pittsburgh.
Josh Eddy
Josh was awarded the National Scholarship in 2003 after graduating from Iowa-Grant High School in Livingston, Wisconsin. Josh has since received a bachelor’s degree in business & music with a minor in math from Belmont University and, with the help of the 2009 Dennis R. Washington Achievement Scholarship, Josh will obtain his law degree and MBA at University of California, Los Angeles.
David Mou
David was awarded the National Scholarship in 2004 after graduating from Seven Hills Upper School in Cincinnati, Ohio. David has since received a bachelor’s degree in neurobiology from Harvard University and a master’s degree in neurobiology from Universite Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France. With the help of the 2009 Dennis R. Washington Achievement Scholarship, David will obtain a medical degree from Harvard University.
Ashley N. Roberts Orr
Ashley was awarded the National Scholarship in 2005 after graduating from Eminence School in Eminence, Kentucky. Ashley has since received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from University of Kentucky at Lexington and, with the help of the 2009 Dennis R. Washington Achievement Scholarship, Ashley will obtain a Ph.D in psychology from Spaulding University.
Joel Stroot
Joel was awarded the National Scholarship in 2002 after graduating from Smoky Mountain High School in Sylva, North Carolina. Joel has since received a bachelor’s degree in biology pre-professional and philosophy from West Carolina University. With the help of the 2009 Dennis R. Washington Achievement Scholarship, Joel will obtain a degree in dentistry from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
